The Incredible Hulk Official Utility Belt

I've long believed that the Remco Incredible Hulk Utility belt is the most ridiculous piece of Hulk merchandising produced, I mean the guy doesn't have gadgets and generally, his pants are held up by a rope or possibly a toaster cord.

It appears, however, that Remco sold a bunch of these because there are two versions, my Corey LeChat sent me these photos recently of the two, distinctly different Hulk Utility belts, more after the jump:

Origins of Remco Dracula!

My friend Matt strikes again! This time he's uncovered another toy mystery, just exactly who was the source material for the Dracula on this Remco Makeup box? The answer might blow your mind. More after the jump.

5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

Colin Baker Doctor Who Potato Chip Bags I've never heard of this promotion before, a series of Potato chips (or crisps) promoting the sixth Doctor's adventures. Who doesn't want a used Cheesy Corn Puff bag with Colin Baker on it?

Bootleg Mexican Mego Thor- I used to collect this stuff and honestly remember getting really pissed off at losing one of these. I think that's when I realized I was pursuing madness because I stopped after that. Yeah, they're terrible and crudely made but there is some sort of charm there that once had me...

Remco Creature and Phantom Makeup- I know it's just a box of makeup but that's the box art from the 9" Remco monsters and that's well...dreamy...

Captain Action Knock Off Figure- I love these knock off Superheroes wearing discarded clothes from Mego or Captain Action or in this case a fashion doll's leotard.

Planet of the Apes Sleeping Bag-  I'm a sucker for stuff like this but I don't know how to display them and I rarely get invited to slumber parties anymore.

Five Incredibly Strange, Incredible Hulk Toys on eBay this week

A special thank you to my nerd blood brother David Lockwood for inspiring this post with his love of the Hulk and ridiculous items.

Incredible Hulk Lantern- The Hulk appears to be screaming in pain from having his midsection been removed and replaced with a lamp. Also, you know this probably is better at throwing shadows than providing any significant light.

AHI Incredible Hulk Utility Belt- AHI and Remco had this belief that whatever sells for Batman, works for all other Superheroes. That may be true but when you get to the Hulk, it also produces comedy. I remember staring at this when I was 9 and laughing at it right before I chose the Batman Utility belt.

Hulk Hang Glider- This is so wonderfully hilarious and i can't help but think of the time Klinger tried to hang glide out of the 4077...

Hulk and Spider-Man Intercom set- "Mr. Parker your puny 3 o'clock is here"

Ice Pops- Nothing whets the appetite more than pictures of what is essentially a shirtless homeless man who is also radioactive. MMMMMM, where do I lick?

Toy-Ventures: Remco Monsters at Home

It's October and I'm going to talk about nothin' but Monster Toys and let's start with an underrated classic, the Remco Monsters at Home line. This series of Universal Monsters hand puppets were based on the Remco 9" Figures that came a few years before and rarely get the spotlight.

Toy-Ventures: The Mighty Crusaders by Remco

This week we talk about my obsession with the Mighty Crusaders toys by Remco, no not the action figures themselves (not a big fan) but the amazing AHI rack toys that came out with them. They're hard to find but that's what makes it so fun!

Remco Monsters Mummy Head Mold

I had a tremendous bit of good fortune on Ebay a while back (As some might know I spend a lot of time there!) when a friend pointed out this head mold. It took a while but eventually, a friend of mine deduced that it was for the Remco Mummy figure!

Being a huge fan of the toy line, it was just so awesome to find something so historical and be able to document it like this.

Awww, look at them like peas in a pod...

BIG Toys Week: Earthquake Tower by Remco

I think this is one of the more infamous toys we’ve ever discussed on PlaidStallions. Remco sought to cash in on the Irwin Allen disaster movie craze (but not pay for it) by creating this playset that emulates a massive earthquake hitting a tower.

Earthquakes are real events, unlike King Kong or Godzilla attacks, the Remco Earthquake tower is well, one of the more morbid toys ever conceived (with this being a close contender for #2).

Remco sold it as a sort of rescue game, your goal was to save as many civilians as you could using your copter and fire truck but as a former 7 year old boy, I'll tell you right now, those people are toast.

It’s also, as the theme week would anticipate, really, really big. It's five feet tall, which means bigger than most kids.

Remco even included a floppy vinyl record of explosions, sirens, and perilous music to help you simulate this environment; it is, however, tastefully bereft of screams. Give it a listen if you like, I put it on Youtube.

Random SuperHero merchandise from 1980

Here are a few random pages from the 1980 Pedigree Toys catalog from the UK, being 9 at the time I can honestly say I WANTED ALL OF THIS! I had a special love for the Remco utility belts.

Please add a long life obsession with the Remco Batcopter to my life long list.

OK, I never had anything to do with roller skatea and these looked really weird and dangerous...

Crystar: Crystal Warrior

Crystar is pretty bittersweet for me as it's possibly the last action figure I ever purchased as a kid, I was in the last few weeks of being 12 and the winds of change were blowing.  I still think they were neat.

McActionfigures : More Fun than Burgers

My local Eaton's growing up had a huge McDonaldland display that looked just like this in a cube in the middle of their toy department. I recall being kind of in awe of the diorama but it couldn't compete with Big Jim, Bulletman or the Mego Superheroes in my five year old brain.

I was later told by a salesman for Irwin Toys (the distributor in Canada) that I wasn't alone in that.

The Top Ten Coolest 1970s Wonder Woman Merchandise

The Top Ten Coolest 1970s Wonder Woman Merchandise

The 1970s were a good time for female heroes, between Jaime Sommers, The Angels, Police Woman and Diana Prince, sisters were kicking butt like never before.

Wonder Woman was not only on prime time but a Saturday morning fixture with "The Super Friends", this combined with her comic title made her very popular with licensors in the 1970s.
