Heroes World Bag

Damien shared me this vintage shopping bag from Heroe's World, it's not for sale, I checked. Like a lot of kids, I dreamed of visiting one of their stores and never did so this little piece of memorabilia is so cool to see.

Odyssey Video Games

The Odyssey video game system was the #1 choice of dads who purchased a video disk player instead of a VCR.

Five Awesome Things on Ebay this week!

Instant Black Hole Collection- Now, like a lot of things on this feature, I'm not really looking at the price but merely window shopping. So I don't know if this lot is priced well but it is chock full of cool oddball things like the Italian communicators by Mego, the Chad Vallery projector, the Fisher Price movie viewer, the weird educational video game and of course, the Humanoid Action Figure. I would love this lot!

70s Superman Light Switch Cover- This isn't the one I usually run into but I am totally smitten with it's charm and simplicity. That seems like an early 60s Superman on there and I long for the days when licensed properties had no style guides or domineering art control.

7-Zark-7 and 1-Rover-1 glass- A couple of weeks back i featured a pretty pricey Battle of the Planets drinking glass because it was one of a kind. My pal David Lockwood (who should get a co-writing credit on this feature) found this European glass featuring 7-Zark-7 AND 1-Rover-1 that was downright affordable. I love this!

Spectreman Beach Ball-  You want to stand out on the beach this year? How about being the only person with the face of Dr. Gori on their recreation equipment.

HERVE VILLECHAIZE NICK NACK BOWLER HAT- Ok, this isn't the film worn prop (that got stolen) but it is the one that Villechaize wore for press junkets and for the promotional photos. I'm a huge Fantasy Island guy so the connection to Villechaize means more to me than 007.

Toy-Ventures: ERTL Star Trek 3

We're back after a short break and going to take a look at a 1980s property for a change.

This week is all about the rarely talked about ERTL Star Trek 3 line, one of the most obscure toy lines of the 1980s. We delve into the back story of Star Trek movie toys, how these got made and why they didn't really succeed.

Escape from New York: The Boardgame

I really need to get this game for my next family game night. I always equate this movie with Starlog, they really gave it a lot of coverage and hyped me to see it. That just took a while cause I was ten when it came out...

B,J and the Bear model by AMT

I really want to give AMT mad props for including the show's true star in the cabin. I also like to pretend that "BJ and the Bear" took place in the "Planet of the Apes" universe and Bear would eventually rise up over his oppressor.

Toy-Ventures: Torpedo Fist from Big Jim's Wolfpack!

Our focus this week is one of the top agents in the Professional Agents Crime Killers (or P.A.C.K) , the amazing Torpedo Fist.

We talk about the evolution of Mattel's Big Jim, the birth of the PACK, Jack Kirby, the launch of "Double Trouble", Torpedo Fist's origin story and even touch how the character ended up on the Masters of the Universe (sorta kinda?) .

It's a jam-packed Toy-Ventures and one I'm certain you'll enjoy!

5 Awesome Things on Ebay this week

Custom Marvel Legends Manta and Moray figures- Oh my God, I love Filmation's Tarzan and the Super 7 and this guy did a brilliant job making them.

Tootsie Toys Flash Gordon Spaceship- This brings me back to the days when Flash Gordon toys peppered toy aisles. I am pretty sure that I first saw Flash Gordon was in some drugstore.

Battle of the Planets Pepsi Glass- These sadly never got made save for a handful of prototypes, this sucks becaus a) I love Battle of the Planets and b) I love Pepsi glasses, just not this much. It's so shiny though...

Vintage Star Trek the Motion Picture T Shirt- Shatner in all his "house of masters glory", my chest is not worthy!

Cornelius Water Pistol by AHI- Yeah, these are an obsession of mine. I have both of these but i really just think they are amazing.

Bags of Fun: Action Figures

As a kid, I figured out that combining these sets with other dimestore novelties could result in some B-Movie goodness, so I had Cowboys vs Giant bugs and Army Men vs Dinosaurs quite often. This is the only skill of merit that I taught my children.

Toy-Ventures: Planet of the Apes Adventure Set by Amsco

Our focus this week is the incredible Planet of the Apes Adventure Playset by Amsco (A division of Milton Bradley) and these awesome 3D environments are entirely made of corrugated cardboard and hours of fun.

The folks at Amsco clearly had a lot of fun designing these because they are loaded with Easter eggs and nods to both the movies and the television series, it's one of the coolest Apes toys ever made!

5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

Italian Superman Flying toy- I don't know if i've ever seen this 70s item by "New Toy" before but i really like it and it's wonderful packaging design. It even has an offer for an Ourways Studios articulated Superman on the back.

Doctor Zaius Helium Head- OH MY GOD I WANT THIS. I seriously contemplated a "Go Fund Me" to buy it. I probably won't go through with that but wow, i'm so smitten....

Battlestar Galactica Warriors Battle jacket store poster- There can't be too many of these kicking around. I had no idea they were even offered at retail. As a kid, even though I was lukewarm on BSG I soooooo wanted to wear this to school. It's probably good that i didn't get it, I doubt it would have gone over big...

Farrah Fawcett Knock off doll- Skateboarding Tanya is popular with Charlie's Angels characters because of that awesome swipe from the Hasbro Charlie's Angel's toy line.

Spectreman Stamp Set- Japanese kids got cheap-o rack toys just like us, except their licenses were kind of more awesome. The seller has ALL KINDS of wonderful and tempting Spectreman items, so if you're into I suggest you visit here.

Toy-Ventures: Kung Fu Stuff!

Note: Warner Brothers doesn't like that i used the show intro in the video and has blocked it on mobile devices. Sorry.

Instead of looking at a single toy, I thought I'd share my collection of merchandise from the 1970s tv classic "Kung Fu". There wasn't a ton of merchandise for the show but there is plenty of neat stuff like lunchboxes, figurines, viewmasters, and even comics!

Snatch this pebble from my hand and join me on this toy-venture!
