Matchbox Mobile Action Command Find

Like a lot of you,  my summer plans kinda fell apart in 2020, so I've been doing small day trips with my wife hitting some familiar antique and flea haunts. It's been slim pickings but it's still fun to get back to scrounging in a limited fashion.

The best find I've had all summer is this beautiful carded Matchbox Mobile Action Command (M.A.C for short) vehicle complete on Canadian card (which if you watch Toy-Ventures, you know is a fetish of mine).

M.A.C is one of those toylines I only purchase "in the wild", I refuse to look on eBay, it's just more fun and appreciated like this. This was tucked in behind something, it was almost impossible to see, I almost felt like it was waiting for me.

Here's to small victories!

Colorforms 1976

If I only could choose one back in the day, this would be an all-day decision and the only thing I'm certain of is what I left behind would haunt me. Which would you have chosen?

Adventure People Rock!

The Fisher-Price Adventure people were a Christmas staple in my house, so much so that they always trigger happy memories when I see them. I still have my originals so I don't actually have a large collection of them.

Toy-Ventures: Space:1999 Rack Toys

This week's toy-ventures takes a look at the merchandising from Gerry Anderson's classic series Space:1999, particularly the lower cost "Rack Toys" made by Azrak-Hamway International.

If moonbase Alpha had a drugstore, these are the toys it would sell!

GI Joe at Australian Toy Fair

Crude little photos like this one from the Kenbrite booth at the 1974 Australian Toy Fair are gold to me, a little glimpse into how our childhood friends were marketed. I have a few more shots that I'll share soon.

Toy-Ventures 20- My Star Wars Collection

I thought I'd do something different and talk about my Star Wars collection, most people I know are surprised I have any SW stuff and well, I have a lot of rules about collecting this stuff that I almost always follow. Do you have collecting rules you follow? Let's hear them in the comments section.

Spectreman Trading Card Display

My friend Corey shared this awesome vintage display of Spectreman cards from Japan. As if I couldn't love Japanese stuff more.

I am truly a sucker for anything with Dr. Gori on it.

Toy Ventures 19: Space Sword & Space Shield

Ok let me address the fact that for some reason I keep saying "Star Sword" despite what's on the label but please don't let that mar my celebration of two of my favourite childhood toys, Space Sword and Space Shield! These glow in the dark Star Wars inspired toys were the source of hours and hours of backyard play for me in the late 1970s and I actually like them better than officially licensed toys. So join me on another Toy-Venture in a galaxy far, far away. If you like this video please subscribe for more goodness ever week!

Space Wars figures

With all the mishbegosh about Star Wars, I'd thought I'd end the week with these Space characters from the 1978 Vanity Fair catalog. I sure hope these got made because I love them.

Toy-Ventures 8: The Martian Chronicles

This week's installment of Toy-Ventures is all about the action figures produced by Larami for the 1980 TV mini-series "The Martian Chronicles", just how does a mini-series get an action figure line the first place? We'll try to explain.

Did anyone get a Gold Cylon Mailer?

My friend John sent me an email the other day asking me about this, one of his "holy grails". He claims he sent away for this as a kid but a got a Hot Wheels car and an apology. Since then he's been looking for one in the mailer box to fill that void (i can relate to that) but it's never come up.

When I started thinking about I realized I've seen them carded and of course loose but in all my years I've never come across one in the mailer box.

So question to you all is, did you or do you have a gold Cylon in the mailer box?

Incredible Bendy Hulk

As a fan of Bendy figures, I'd have to say the Vic's Incredible Hulk is a choice and logical item.  He'll fit it in great with my Mego Bend N Flex figures. Thanks to Steve for sending me this generous gift!

Toy-Ventures 7: Robot Man with Four Faces

This week's installment of Toy-Ventures is all about the wonderful and weird Maskatron knock off from France called "Robot Man with Four Faces" one of the more blatant (and charming) rip-offs I've ever encountered as a collector.
