Pod Stallions 39: The 2015 Retro Awards

Happy New Year! It's time for our annual salute to all the things that made us happy in 2015, especially those that harkened back to our childhoods and brother, did we have a lot to smile about.

The 2015 Retro Awards salutes the movies, books, magazines and toys we raved about this year and we also talk about special events and end by mourning some of the folks we lost.

1977 Fleetwood Toys Catalog

Fleetwood toys was one of the biggest and most prolific manufacturers of Rack Toys during the 1970s and 80s.

In 1977, they were truly on top of their game as evidenced by the massive amount of licenses they had this year including the Marvel Comics Superheroes, Welcome Back Kotter, Starsky and Hutch, The Rookies, SWAT, Tarzan, the Space Sentinels even Ba-Ba Blacksheep!

It's so jam packed with cool rack toys, there is no way you can't find something you like.

1974 Centsable Halloween Catalog

Centsable, the people behind Socker Boppers also did a good business in Halloween costumes, who knew? This 1974 catalog shows that while they did in fact have several decent licenses like the Hanna Barbera clan , they were not above creating some of the ballsiest knock offs of the decade nor did the seem to have and fear of Stan Lee or Universal Studios.

It's a fun trip filled with not only costumes but Halloween decorations too.

Want to see more Halloween costumes? We've got an expansive library of titles and years to peruse.

The Top Ten Coolest 70s Marvel Comics Toys

The 1970s was an absolute windfall of Marvel comics merchandise, the house of ideas sold out and we were better off for it. By 1976, the Marvel comics license was shared with dozens of toy manufacturers all vying for our parents hard earned money.

Here are top ten of the best Marvel comics toys from a time when a big screen Avengers movie would have starred Reb Brown and Lou Ferrigno.

Richochet Racers

10: Hasbro Richocet Racers
These had absolutely nothing to do with the comic books but who honestly cared? Ricochet Racers were rifles that shot cars featuring the likeness of Spidey and Cap. Joyous!
Remco Hulk Muscles

9: Remco Hulk Muscles

Most of the Incredible Hulk merchandise that bubbled out of the popularity of the CBS Television series made little to no sense, things like Hulk Helicopters and utility belts were clearly just lazily recycled Batman toys.

However, Remco did get super clever with this Hulk specific item which allowed kids to transform just like David Banner. You wouldn't like Billy when he's angry...
