Pod Stallions 80: British Annuals

It's just Jason and Brian this time around and our topic this week was inspired by some posts in our Facebook group.

British Annuals are hardback books that go back to the 1940s and over the decades they have made a staggering amount of different licenses and properties.

We start by talking about Doctor Who (a lot of people's introduction to the annual) but discuss Holmes and Yo-Yo, V, The Avengers, Adam Adamant,  Kenny Everett, The Beano, Thunderbirds, Look-In, Abba, Space:1999, UFO, Kung Fu, Star Trek, Tomorrow People, Gold Key Comics, Brian's childhood fears about England and finish off just talking about Buck Rogers for no good reason.

As a side bonus, we will be sharing our collection of UK annuals in our facebook group, join us!

Pod Stallions 79: Dalek Grab Bag

For this week's episode, we're joined by our special guest actor/writer/comedian Matt Weinhold (@mattweinhold) who is also 1/4 of the awesome Monster Party Podcast.

We titled this episode "Dalek Grab Bag" because we set out to talk about the Peter Cushing Dalek movies of the mid-1960s (and that is the running theme) but we're all over the map talking about obscure UK SF shows we like,  Doug McClure, one-man plays, tripods, Dalek merchandise, triffids, 16mm prints, Tom Baker and dream casting a new Doctor Who movie.

We still think it's a fun, solid two hours but just wanted to be honest about the title. Also, some NSFW language.

Pod Stallions 78: Raiders of the Lost Ark

In honour of CBS bringing back the Sunday Night Movie this week, we decided to cover Raiders of the Lost Ark and we have a special guest, Ned Hastings from Adult Swim!

We cover our childhood discovery of the film and our respective takeaways, the various rip-offs, the toylines from Kenner, LJN, and Star Toys. Our appreciation (or lack therefore of) for the sequels and basically all kinds of the usual straying from the topic like seeing films with tons of nudity with your parents, old timey movie theatres and programs, old James Bond,  Mad Mission 4, your dad seeing a movie before you and the guy who played "Toht".

It's a fun car ride, join us won't you?

Pod Stallions 77: Isolation Binge Watch

Greetings fellow shut-ins! Jason and Brain return for a bit of a departure episode in that we were so desperate to talk to each other that there really wasn't much planning.

Our subject this week is what we're watching to pass the time, not only from our physical media collections but from the various streaming services available in this wondrous age.

Topics range from Lee Marvin, Alec Baldwin's "The Shadow", Jim Henson, Roger Corman, Chopping Mall, weird movie commentaries, Sam Sherman, Dick Tracy, Ultraman, and Ultra Q and did you know Jason is a Star Trek character? It's freaking canon and everything!

Pod Stallions 74: Question Time

Our newest PodStallions doesn't really have a topic but is a concept that Jason had, where we just ask each other personal questions relating to why we are the way we are. Topics include collecting during high school, giving it all up and first pop culture crushes.

Pod Stallions 73: Guilty Pleasures?

Our last podcast of the year began with the premise of Guilt Pleasures but evolved live into a discussion of whether or not the concepts should exist anymore at all.

This episode covers a ton of ground and includes a variety of topics including Jim Wynorski, Life Force (again), Hallmark channel movies, comfort food, there is a whole point where we just fanboy about the Watchman and we crescendo into Jason's new friendship with Rian Johnson. It's one of the most fun experiences we've had in taping this show and honestly, that's saying a lot.

Also, I'm super sorry about the sound quality, i've already made some purchases to fix that in the new year.

We sidetracked a little bit but anyone who listens to us knows how we do.

We hope you enjoy and have a happy Halloween!

Pod Stallions : Phantom of the Paradise

As we're into the coolest month ever, we pontificate upon one of Brian's favourite movies of all time, the Brian Depalma classic " Phantom of the Paradise".

Please note we thought of the topic exactly one minute before taping but that really wouldn't stop someone who's seen the movie50 times, there was no "boning up" required, we talk Paul Williams, where we first saw the movie, influences, Winnipeg,  the merchandise, alternative casting, shared locations with Logan's Run, the amazing Gerrit Graham and somehow end up at Zardoz? How? Anyway, It's a jam-packed hour.

Please Enjoy and we have a new PodStallions Facebook group, please join us.

Pod Stallions Mini: Terrance Dicks

The passing of legendary Doctor Who writer Terrance Dicks could not go unnoticed by us, not only did he create many, many of the surrounds that embody the show that we love but he also was the freaking ambassador of the series through the multitude of novelizations he wrote.

11 year old Jason and Brian were forever changed in their nerdy little hearts by the writings of this man and it would IMPOSSIBLE for us not to give him a proper salute. We love you Terrance and I hope this shows.

Pod Stallions 71: Summer of 1989

We're back with an all-new episode and what better time to wax nostalgic about the summer of 1989 than the 30th anniversary (sigh) of the release of Tim Burton's "Batman".

We get into the Superhero event of the summer along with the "other" comic book movie that season, delve into Star Trek V, Do the Right Thing, The Abyss, Jason Takes Manhattan and of course, the hit of the decade, Young Einstein!

We take a side step into our minimum wage jobs, movie theatres, comic stores and how much i miss my metabolism.

We hope you enjoy.

Pod Stallions 64: DUNE

Hell hath frozen over, we're doing the Dune show.

Long joked about as a "never gonna happen", the Dune show became our #1 listener requested episode and well, give the folks some spice!

We've brought in our pal and uber fan David Weiner of the awesome It came from Blog to join us and discuss not only the film but the book series.

David and Jason carefully explain why they love the film to Brian, who isn't quite taking the spice if you know what i mean.

Along the way we talk about the director, the cast, the upcoming remake, the TV mini-series, Saturn 3, the horribly misguided attempt to sell Dune products to children and Yor the Hunter from the Future frisbees (seriously).

It's actually one of our best shows ever, who'da thunk it?
