Toy-Ventures: Filmation Super 7 Merchandise

Time to talk about my 40-year obsession with the Filmation series "Tarzan and the Super 7" and my long hunt for merchandise which are mainly cheap rack toys but I love it none the less.

Super 7 Puffy Stickers by Imperial Toys

It's been a while since I got anything new in my quest to own all merchandise from my favourite saturday morning show,  Tarzan and the Super 7.

Lucky for me I found a sweet deal on a complete set of Imperial stickers based on all the characters! More after the jump.

Costume Spotlight: Web Woman

I know it seems odd that I'm excited to own a girl's Halloween costume but this is Web Woman, one of the seven of Filmation's "Tarzan and the Super 7" fame that I've been obsessed with since i was 9.

I've been looking for this costume for years and managed to get it for $20, which makes it that much sweeter. Also, I happen to have a willing model right across the hall.

I tried talking her into using it this Halloween but no go.....

More Space Sentinels

I am overjoyed to find this, a Hercules Magnetic figure from Space Sentinels. Years ago I found an Astrea, so this is a pretty big deal. Also, Herc was on my beloved "Tarzan and the Super 7", so this is win/win for me.

Manta & Moray Bubble Animal

Yet another addition to my burgeoning Tarzan and the Super 7 collection of Rack Toys, Manta and Moray were the Aquaman and Mera of the Filmation superhero universe.  DC sued Filmation which is why we never saw more of the duo.

Isis knows what time it is

Another item in my mad obsession with Filmation's "Tarzan and the Super 7" merchandise, which 99% rack toy based.

I've had this boy's watch for a while but this is my first girl's version. This picture from the catalog suggests I've got more to track down. Come on Super Stretch!

Super 7 reveals SDCC Alien ReAction Goodies

I'm not much of a modern toy news guy but the good people at Super 7 are doing a phenomenal job at pushing every one of my nostalgic toy nerd buttons.

So dedicated to channeling the ghost of Kenner, Super 7  not only issuing a SDCC early bird kit (which really is both nostalgic and a clever way to sell product they ain't got) but they're also selling figures in those little white mail away boxes that are only connected with joy to me.

You can get the details at the Super 7 website and also check out their Flickr account.

Freedom Force Binoculars

Aw yeah, another stellar find in my quest to find any merchandise from the Filmation "Tarzan and the Super 7" series. This time it's binoculars that I can honestly say were never mentioned or used on the show in any way. Such is the beauty of Rack Toys...

This was another situation where the seller charged me three times what the item cost to ship it to me (there seems to be one Canadian on Ebay making it tough for the rest of us) and I gladly paid it.

Another Super 7 score

Readers of this fine blog and my long suffering friends may know of my life long obsession with Filmation's "Tarzan and the Super 7" TV series and my quest to find any merchandise surrounding it.

I'm elated to post my latest haul, the tool set a completely nonsensical item from Imperial Toy that features team members Merlin and Isis. I won this spectacular piece for a whopping $0.99 and the seller tried to cancel the transaction because I lived in Canada. My swift and perhaps too zealous reaction to this situation tells me that without a doubt,  that seller now thinks I'm insane.

Super 7 Find

This "Manta and Moray" watch is my first find of merchandise from childhood favourite show "Tarzan and the Super 7". Somebody actually offered this for sale at the Megomuseum forums where I'm known to be, so it was rather serendipitous It's pretty well documented that DC comics felt Manta was a little too close to Aquaman for them, so not a lot of toys get out there.

What it really gives me is hope that this other stuff is out there....

Super 7 goes retro with Alien

I rarely post SDCC news here (mostly because it's about stuff I don't collect) but this announcement from Super 7 is so huge it can't be ignored.

Super 7 has the Alien license which is not really earth shattering in of itself but it's the fact that they're going retro with it that's so exciting, what are they doing you ask?

1) They're doing a series of "Burger King" type glasses that are so freaking full of win that I wish they'd get every 70s sci fi license. I want to start my day with OJ from a "Westworld" glass and guzzle down my fifth "lunch beer" staring at Sean Connery from "Outland".

2) THEY'RE GIVING US THE 3 3/4" ALIEN ACTION FIGURE LINE THAT KENNER STUPIDLY DID NOT RELEASE! A HUGE WRONG IS FINALLY RIGHTED.

>

Here is the Kane figure prototype in it's vintage glory.

Oh and if that wasn't enough, they're doing Boba Fett as a Jumbo Machinder as well.

I am not sure I'll be reporting anything else from SDCC but I'm also not sure I have to either....

Super 7 Merchandise Part 2

tarzan and the super 7
My obsession with Filmation's short lived (and sadly "damned to never be on DVD") series "Tarzan and the Super 7" continues with the only known merchandise, all of it lower cost rack toys. Above we have Bubb-a-loons featuring Web Woman (a boyhood crush), Manta and Moray and The Freedom Force (one of the cooler superhero teams of the 1970s).

What...I...wouldn't....give for this stuff, it's kind of crazy but seeing as it's the only merch out there, I am totally determined to find it.
tarzan and the super 7

Here we have Manta and Moray bubble animals, it's not a surprise these two got more merch than say "Super Stretch and Micro Woman", they're really toyetic.

Sigh, I don't collect bubble stuff but put a graphic of Web Woman on there and it's now a must have item for me. Off to Ebay!

The Super 7!

I was looking through this cool puffy stickers catalog (which I am going to get to in the fall) and my I found this killer box for the Filmation Super 7 Stickers. It's very rare to find any merchandise for these characters. I remember a kid in my class having these and me being very jealous of that fact. It's a damned shame that this series may never see the light of day on DVD, so far only the Freedom Force shorts are available.
Oh Web Woman, when will we be reunited?

Speaking of DVD's, it's Tuesday: Gosh, it's slim pickings today, the only thing new that may be of interest is the Fletch Collection, which is a box set of Fletch and Fletch Lives. The first one is Chevy Chase at his peak, even if it isn't really faithful to the (very good) series of novels. The sequel is one of those things I'll watch on a hung over afternoon, so like every time it's on.

Seeing as the rest of the week's releases is mostly stuff I'm not into, I'll give a mini review. I managed to finally pick up a copy of the Legacy collection of the Mummy and really recommend it, some of the extras are the same on all the Legacy sets but the little piece on Jack Pierce was quite nice.

If you're a fan of the Universal Monsters, I would give it a giant undead thumbs up. I'm sure a Wolfman DVD is in the works what with the remake coming up, can't wait!
