The Cheerful Family

The Cheerful family is a rip off of Mattel's "Sunshine Family" by Lincoln International. Not to be outdone by the overall creepiness of the originals, Lincoln somehow made them even more terrifying. I won't sleep tonight.

Barbie's Friend Ship

After showing Big Jim's Sky Commander earlier in the week, it seems fitting to show the Barbie Equivalent.  During this particular segment, Ken had the fish, so Barbie had to land the plane.

Holly Hobbie Mania

Up until I wrote this blog post, I had no idea that Holly Hobbie is a real person. My entire world has been changed.

Snoopy's Flying Doghouse

This is one of those times where marrying an established toy concept with a license made total and complete sense. Which cannot be said for 99% of "Incredible Hulk" toys.....

Big Jim Vs Fighting Furies

It looks like pirates are about to break up Big Jim's camping trip, I'd watch this if it were a movie....

Dr Steel International

My pal Jesus posted this yesterday and it's too good not to share, behold the many different faces of Dr. Steel one of my favourite action figures of the 1970s.

Mainly known as Dr. Steel, the notable exceptions are when he's called "Dr. Acero" (Steel) in Spain and "Doctor Drago" in Mexico but that's only because Big Jim himself is called "Kid Acero" there.

That's probably a lot to take in, sorry.

Big Jim Motorcross Honda

Picked up this oddity at last month's Kane County toy show. It's the regular Big Jim Honda bike that was released for a couple of years but for some reason it's got the Pack logo emblazoned on it.

This isn't a sticker either, it's printed on the box. The best I can figure this is a transitional piece released before the P.A.C.K vehicles had been devised.

I have limits on what I buy and I don't actively collect the All Stars line but this sort of  crept in. Also, when I picked it up the dealer automatically kicked 25% off his posted price without me saying a word. That kind of tactic works really, really well on me.

GI Joe's 50 Adventures

Moving things around yesterday I looked at the back of GI Joe package for the first time in years and was kind of blown away at how striking it is.

It really shows how powerful this artwork was, no wonder I'm a junkie for it some 40 years later.

Japanese Evel Knievel

I'm back from Mego Meet and I bring many virtual presents in the form of the sights I encountered there. Let's start with this, a Popy Evel Knievel stunt set or as they dubbed it "The Evel Knievel Challenge Machine".

I had to do some Guerilla photography on this one because it had just been sold! Fortunately the purchaser was a good egg and let me mess with it before he took it home. More after the (Snake Canyon) jump!

Hasbro on Parade

Sadly, Jerry Lewis was never part of the GI Joe Adventure Team, his presence was to promote a series of board games. What a missed opportunity to have sets like "Search for the Golden Ladieeeeeeee!"

Fisher Price Adventure People Make Me Happy

I really don't have a lot to say today other than the sight of Fisher Price Adventure People never fail to make me happy.

This ad is from 1975 when "collect em all" meant "four sets".

Kentucky Fried Chicken Playset

I think this Kentucky Fried Chicken play set is one of the more charming toy concepts I've seen in a while.

I'd also like to say I want that little Col. Sanders more than air currently.

I guess this was even TV advertised, I certainly don't remember the commercials.

1975 Polistil Action Team (GI Joe) Catalog

There is nothing i like more an European Catalog for GI Joe Adventure team toys and this one from Polistil Italy is a lot of fun.

Here they are the Action Team and all science fiction is toned down in favour of a slightly more paramilitary look.

As always, the products and faces are familiar but the packaging and marketing have a nice foreign flavour.
