Toy-Ventures: Kung Fu Stuff!

Note: Warner Brothers doesn't like that i used the show intro in the video and has blocked it on mobile devices. Sorry.

Instead of looking at a single toy, I thought I'd share my collection of merchandise from the 1970s tv classic "Kung Fu". There wasn't a ton of merchandise for the show but there is plenty of neat stuff like lunchboxes, figurines, viewmasters, and even comics!

Snatch this pebble from my hand and join me on this toy-venture!

Kung Fu Super 8 Movies

As if I didn't have enough obsessions, I've recently discovered Kung Fu movies came on Super 8 reels, I own a projector and I love Kung Fu movies, so guess what happened?

Anyway, the beauty of collecting these is nobody cares, seriously the three films I showcase here? Under $20. A total win/win.

These fine films will be debuting on my deck this weekend!

Kung Fu Target Set

I found this piece that I honestly didn't know existed, so it was a pretty big deal for me. As a lover of the TV show "Kung Fu", the merchandise is minimal and this set from Multiple Toys is something special.

The weird thing is, it's actually not licensed. Released just after the show was canceled, it's like Multiple just went ahead and produced the set anyway. It's clearly based on the series, look at the Caine on that artwork. Don't mind his weird arm.

Here is a shot of the Caine figure, it totally looks like the third season look although i'm not sure why he's on a horse.

Durham Kung Fu!

The Durham Kung Fu figure seemed to be everywhere in the early 1970s, not based on the David Carradine series it simply captured the culture's then obsession with martial arts.

I really wanted one of these as a kid but they're pretty cheaply made and I've heard no end of stories about how his hands flew off in mid chop.

Still that display box is pretty sexy,....

The Dojo of Love

The only dojo where the mats have silk sheets, be sure to take off your shoes and bring a towel. You'll thank me when you find out why.

1976 Multiple Toymakers Catalog

Multiple Toys doesn't immediately spring to mind when you think of childhood favourites but they certainly should seeing as they did create an incredible amount of childhood staples like plastic dinosaurs and green plastic army men.

Add to that Multiples hot licenses like Planet of the Apes, M*A*S*H, Kung Fu and the DC Comics superheroes and you have the irresistable combination of fun and excitement.
