Me and Spidey : Easter '76

I'm too full of chocolate and coffee to do anything like Colouring Book Theatre today but I thought I'd share this fun shot of me and Mego Spider-Man (who does not have a great view) on Easter morning, I'm guessing in 1976. I am assuming that there was some sort if law that children had to wear the Ernie-esque striped shirts back then, I seemed to own nothing but these and turtle necks judging from my photos...

The Dynamic Duo

As promised, we're beginning a series about the 70s stage extravaganza "Bugs Bunny meets the Superheroes" thanks to some negatives unearthed by my buddy Lou. First off are the caped crusaders themselves (and some kid) doing a photo opoutside the show. More coolness next week.

Aw yeah, summer's almost here and it's time to take a peek into what Ideal Toys had in store for back yard fun with the 1979 Summer Time Catalog.

Lots of pages of inflatable noveltys such as pools, air mattresses and water wings being modeled by some of the hottest moms ever to grace a suburban cul-de-sac.

Many of these items are licensed featuring characters such asSuperman, Batman, the Barba Pappas (remember them?) Mickey Mouse and Ideal's own Knight of Darkness.

This new addition to the AHI Batman Gallery was a gift from my friend Bill. I've stared at it for a long time before I realized it wasn't on the site. The card is just killer, I love that Batman.

To my surprise I won this Bendy Creature from the Black Lagoon with little to no struggle on Ebay. I think the Universal Monster Bend Ems are just about the coolest things ever, I mean look at this guy! Anyone got a Mummy for sale?

Fisher Price Adventure People Trading Card

I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to the Fisher Price Adventure People but they're card #18. As anyone who reads this blog might already know, I have a mild obsession with this toyline, they are one of the most memorable (and durable!) action figures of the 1970s.

The set pictured is probably for me, the pinnacle of Adventure People, the Boat and the plane connected,that was the BOMB in 1976. Next Sunday, I'll be holding another contest for complete sets of these.

Vintage Commercial Friday

I've uploaded a couple of commercials from volume 2 of our DVD "70s Toy Explosion"(thanks so much to everybody who ordered BTW) and thought it'd be cool to share them today. It's fun aaaaand so much less time consuming than scanning an actual catalogue.

This commercial for the Barbie Star Traveller is of interest of to me mainly because I swear this is Judy Strangis from "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl".

The second commercial I chose is for Mork and Mindy toys, I'm not the biggest Robin Williams fan in the world (in fact I'm jokingly trashing him on my other blog today) but I really remember "Mork Mania" fondly. I still want to buy that Egg Ship figure set.

Love is dressing alike, so it looks like you are wearing some sort of uniform. It's almost as if you work at some sort of romantic version of McDonalds except your name tags would read "Punkin' Pants" and "Mr.Ticklefarts".

I miss a lot of things from the 1970s but couples dressing alike ain't one of them.

Here is some great old school stuff, I actually had a Disney one (still have it somewhere) and it bears the marks from when I ran out of paper and drew on the desk itself. I didn't say I was a smart kid...

The End of the line for the Bionic Man and Woman

1978 saw the end of Kenner's wildly popular Six Million Dollar man line. Despite dwindling sales, Kenner revamped Steve with "Bio Sonic" power and gave him a new villain to fight in the form of the Venus Space Probe.

So while Steve Austin might have been on his way out, he certainly went with a bang or at least a very loud "dun-nuh-nuh-nuh".

Spider-Man pops a Wheelie?

You don't see a great deal of AHI stuff in department store catalogs but the Zoom cycles were a little higher price point and combined superheroes with Evel Knievel, so it's a no brainer.

This page is from the 1976 Azrak Hamway Catalog and shows that Spider-Man, Batman and Doctor Zaius were in the coolest motor cycle gang ever.
