Happy Friday, here is another one from the recently digitized archive, this is the revised for the Mattel Battlestar Galactica toy line that clearly states the missiles no longer fire. We all know why....

Rascal Robots

Rascal Robots by Tomy were such a "right place/right time" creation. Awesome wind up robots that fit in with your Star Wars "guys"? Who wouldn't want that?

Personally I liked to pretend mine was IQ9 from "Star Blazers".

Justice League Exclusive Pin Mates set from Bif Bang Pow!

The JUSTICE LEAGUE™ Pin Mate™ Wooden Figure Set of 3 - Convention Exclusive is one very exciting way to expand the DC universe in your collection! From Bif Bang Pow!, these three retro-styled wooden figures band together in anticipation of the 2017 film JUSTICE LEAGUE™! This set brings the DC Trinity home to your Pin Mate collection with SUPERMAN™ (#12), BATMAN™ (#13), and WONDER WOMAN™ (#14). When these three crime fighters team up, evil doesn't have a chance! Each nostalgia-inducing wooden Pin Mate figure stands 2-inches tall and is made in a classic style familiar to anyone who had a childhood prior to 1990. The figures are individually packaged and unite in one brightly colored, highly detailed collectible box.

While some Justice League movie items are available for pre-order now, only SDCC attendees will be among the first to get their hands on the popular movie merchandise at the Entertainment Earth booth (#2343) with the Justice League Pin Mate Set, with only 520 pieces available. Each set features a holographic sticker printed with the production number. So, come down to the Entertainment Earth booth (#2343), and pick up yours before they're all gone!

Kenner Jedi

So instead of  Leia, this ad features slave General Madine, the most boring Kenner figure ever IMO (and the last figure I ever purchased, talk about going out with a whimper.) Even Jabba seems to be yawning.

Mattel Suckerman Commercial

Happy Friday, here is another one from the recently digitized archive, the original commercial for Mattel's Suckerman. Suckerman definitely fit in with the gimmick figures like Stretch Armstrong and Krusher, they could have formed a League to stop Stretch Monster and Gre-Gory.

Enjoy.

Patio Mystery

Finally, I've solved the mystery of "Where did my parents get their patio furniture in 1975?" The answer is Sears, which considering we only had two department stores in town, really wasn't that much of a "whodunit".

It's Jigglin' Time?

Behold the strangest bit of Marvel comic merchandise I have ever witnessed, it certainly beats Hulk Spider-Man toilet paper and that's saying something.

Behold "Jiggles and the Thing", while that sounds like a Marvel team up between Tanya Roberts and Ben Grimm, it's actually some sort of weird gelatin product.

I'm not sure I'd eat anything that comes from a company known for Yo-yos, especially "5 inch high yellow things" (FYI this blog post writes itself).

What's really perplexing was the little voice in my head that said "PLEASE BUY THIS", it took a couple of post Mego Meet beers for it to go away. The next day, I was speaking to a friend about the show and he blurted out "Did you see that awesome weird Thing toy?" Clearly he had the same demons as me....

Japanese Evel Knievel

I'm back from Mego Meet and I bring many virtual presents in the form of the sights I encountered there. Let's start with this, a Popy Evel Knievel stunt set or as they dubbed it "The Evel Knievel Challenge Machine".

I had to do some Guerilla photography on this one because it had just been sold! Fortunately the purchaser was a good egg and let me mess with it before he took it home. More after the (Snake Canyon) jump!

Pressman Space Creatures Commercial

Another goody from the archive! The Pressman Space Creatures Mask Kits are a wonderfully Star Wars inspired idea that I adore. These kits were designed by Award winning Special Effects wizard Dick Smith, who did several kits for Pressman and I know at least one Oscar winner who was inspired by these as a kid.

The Pressman execs showing off the masks back in the day.

Be sure to check out my facebook page for updates on this weekend's Mego Meet festivities.

Aw Yeah Mego Meet 2017!

This weekend marks the annual Mego Meet convention in Skokie, IL.

I'll be heading there to help out at the door, see old friends and spend money on things I probably don't need. If you're in the area, it's a terrific show and we'd love to have you.

If not, I'll be posting live pics and videos on the PlaidStallions facebook page and twitter all weekend.

Kenner Indiana Jones on Sale

This piece literally fell out of a drawer this morning, I find it wonderful that some kid kept this clipping for 30 years until it landed on my desk.

Star Wars Play Masks by Palitoy

The idea of Halloween style masks being marketed all year long is a wise one to me. I would have been all over this UK display.

Super Slickers

My mom bought me a Sesame Street rain slicker this year (1978), I remember being a little embarrassed wearing it as many of my peers were wearing KISS shirts at this point.

I honestly would have loved the Six Million Dollar Man or Star Trek ones pictured here.

The Mattel Shogun Warriors Collection Commercial

I am thrilled to unveil this new transfer from my collection. This is the Mattel Shogun Warriors collection diecast commercial that I doubt I've seen since I was nine.

I have a few more like this coming up this summer. Hope you enjoy!

Caught in Spidey's Web!

This wonderful shot was sent into me by Twitter user @naturalbornheel who met Spidey at the Wonderland Mall (I've actually been there!) in San Antonio, TX during the Summer of '79.

This is the perfect type of photo I'm seeking for my next book project Mall of Justice, a love letter to the sensational personal appearances of our comic book, TV, movie and toy icons during the 1970s and 80s.

Whether it's Adam West at a car show, He-Man at a Toys R Us opening or an ersatz Chewbacca at a stereo store, Mall of Justice melds vintage photos with childhood recollection of these epic meetings.

While I will design andeventually publish the book (via PlaidStallions Press), it's a project we can all get involved with!

How you can get involved:
I'm looking for your photos and your recollections! Even if you've submitted them to the site before, I would likely need higher resolution and I'd want to
talk to you.

What am i looking for:

Appearances of costumed characters during the 1970s and 80s, be they from comicbooks (Batman, the Hulk) , cartoons (, toy lines (Masters of the Universe, GI Joe)  or movies (Planet of the Apes,Star Wars) , a date and place and a description of how you felt meeting theseiconic characters. Did you think they were real?

Does it have to
specifically be in a mall?:

HECK NO! Car shows, county fairs, grocery stores, heck I'd even accept birthday party shots. It's all fair game.

Download the PDF Concept booklet for Mall of Justice Here.

Download a PDF Here.

Check out a Little Flip Book Here.

Thanks everyone for reading and I hope you'll share your experiences with me!

The Top Ten Coolest 1970s Wonder Woman Merchandise

The Top Ten Coolest 1970s Wonder Woman Merchandise

The 1970s were a good time for female heroes, between Jaime Sommers, The Angels, Police Woman and Diana Prince, sisters were kicking butt like never before.

Wonder Woman was not only on prime time but a Saturday morning fixture with "The Super Friends", this combined with her comic title made her very popular with licensors in the 1970s.

Paracaidista del planeta de los simios

Even though the packaging reads "General Urko" that's clearly Dr. Zaius toting that rifle in a very un-Dr. Zaius like way. Have I mentioned that I want this more than oxygen right now?
