1974 saw the deluge of Apechandise as evidenced by this great newspaper ad, with the cancellation of the series in 1975 would see this stuff go on clearance.
When I started toy collecting in the early eighties, you could find discounted Apes merchandise in almost every convience store in Toronto, it was a good time to be alive.

I'll take 3 of each, thank you! :)
Damn... I was born in time for Star Wars, but born too late for POTA! I too watched the series when City TV would run their Ape marathons, but I was way too young to really understand it. Now, I really get the series, but this stuff is way too pricey in the collector's market! sad face :(
I better start working on the time machine and cash in on these deals :)
That POTA game makes a cameo (along with some other cool stuff) 33 secondes into the Purple Toupee video by They Might Be Giants

I think the series, and the franchise, would have fared MUCH better had the series been a Saturday morning program. 8pm, Fridays was a good time slot, but I just think kids would have swarmed to the show. The movies had already headed in a more kid-oriented directio.
Heck, I don't really remember the series, but I remember wanting Ape stuff well into the 70's. If I had had a Saturday morning promotional pushing me...
I really, really wanted that tree house. Never got one though.
Look at those prices! I would go Ape buying that stuff up!
When I was a kid we couldn't look at the ape movies because my mom was afraid of them.
