MegoMuseum.com presents Mego Meet 2020 which will be held June 18th-20th, 2020 in Columbus, Ohio at the Courtyard by Marriott Columbus West. This will be our third year in Columbus. The hotel is located just off the I-270 outer belt and is minutes away from dining, malls, etc.

Pod Stallions 63: Convention Stories

The last PodStallions we did was so much fun, we rushed back to do another, look at us being proactive! This week’s show is all about conventions and toy shows.

We explore our humble first conventions (which were mind blowing to us then) and eventually get all the way to modern tales of San Diego comic con.

Along the way we talk about celebrity encounters, being a dealer, terrible conventions, John Colicos, Colin Baker, Jon Pertwee, spending all our money, getting drunk and renting adult videos? How did we even? Nevermind.

Electra Wow!

I'm still in recovery mode from Mego Meet but wanted to share this story of my first experience walking on the show floor. My friend Scott takes me aside and hands me this, a custom Dyna Girl. 

Last year Scott had done a limited amount of Electra Woman but only one Dyna Girl. He said he knew I was bummed I missed her, so he made me one.

More than the toy itself (which is amazing) I was touched by the kindness shown, the thoughtfulness. Toys are just stuff but I think in the end,  it is friends I ended up collecting, I love that.

It was a good omen to a very positive weekend but more on that later.

Here is the action figure set, I really would have wanted as a kid (but probably have been top chicken to buy), wish fulfilled, thank you, Scott.

Marty Abrams to reveal Big News at Mego Meet 2018

For Immediate Release:

Star Trek! Spider-Man! The Micronauts! Planet of the Apes! Cher!

Famous 1970s toymaker Mego had them all and made for a generation of happy childhoods, each year the company is celebrated with this special convention.

 

Special Guest is Mego President Martin Abrams, who was recently featured in several episodes of Netflix's hit series "The Toys that Made us". Abrams will be giving a special panel outlining his plans for the newly revived Mego Corporation. 

Attendees can expect a dealers room packed with vintage toys from the 1960s to modern day, a special appearance by the 1960s Batmobile, a customs contest for children, door prizes, informational panel sessions and an auction of custom crafted Mego figures with proceeds going towards the Mego Museum website. 

About Mego Meet: Mego Meet is an annual, not for profit, event and toy show celebrating its 14th year. It is a chance for collectors across the country to meet in person, buy and sell items and feel a sense of community. This is its first year in Ohio. Mego Meet takes place this Saturday at Courtyard Columbus West (2350 Westbelt Dr) from 10am to 4pm. Admission is $10 per family.

Japanese Evel Knievel

I'm back from Mego Meet and I bring many virtual presents in the form of the sights I encountered there. Let's start with this, a Popy Evel Knievel stunt set or as they dubbed it "The Evel Knievel Challenge Machine".

I had to do some Guerilla photography on this one because it had just been sold! Fortunately the purchaser was a good egg and let me mess with it before he took it home. More after the (Snake Canyon) jump!

Aw Yeah Mego Meet 2017!

This weekend marks the annual Mego Meet convention in Skokie, IL.

I'll be heading there to help out at the door, see old friends and spend money on things I probably don't need. If you're in the area, it's a terrific show and we'd love to have you.

The Amazing Micronauts Exhibit

Today's update is a fun look at the amazing displays my pal Ray "Acroray" Miller put up at the Kruger Street Toy Museum a few years back. 

I was lucky enough to see it first hand (luckily we also held Mego Meet there at the time) but for those of you who didn't, this is an incredible experience to see Ray's amazing, comprehensive collection.

Ray's display comprises of vintage toys, concept art, catalogs, Japanese Microman items, prototypes, related merchandise and the many post Mego iterations of the toys and characters. Check it out after the jump.

Happy New Year! It's time for our annual salute to all the things that made us happy in 2015, especially those that harkened back to our childhoods and brother, did we have a lot to smile about.
