Cardboard Kong

My friend Corey gave me this shot (you can check out his awesome auctions here) and I honestly can't ever remember seeing this cool toy before.

What amuses me about it is while it appears to be from the 1970s, it seems to be based on the original film and not the Delaurentis remake. Which of course, makes it cooler in my book.

If this dates to the period right before the 1976 remake came out (and was expected to be a hit) surely this being based on the original film isn't all that perplexing? Delaurentis would have controlled any use of distinctive elements from his version such as the World Trade Center or jet fighters...but the playset makers could use the Empire State Building and biplanes without fear that David O. Selznick would rise from the grave to sue them.

Yeah, I wrote that late one night in the summer and it now sounds daffy. Nothing all that perplexing really. I decided to change it

It's incredibly close to the Earthquake Tower, actually, but not quite the same. Uncanny!
