I say this every year but in addition to being pleased that I remembered the site's birthday a whole two days prior, I'm grateful for the entire experience. A new contest and a whole bunch more of my babble after the jump!

Fashion Mockery Contest Results

Ok, so I got a little ostentatious in thinking I could juggle school, beer,  a six year old's birthday party, beer, fighting a lifelong inclination to nap and judge a tough contest in a single weekend. As a consolation, I've increased the amount of winners:

Halloween contest winners

I planned on doing this earlier but happily this was the most kids I've ever had to the casa. I was beginning to worry that Halloween was in trouble but I'm glad to be wrong. Above is my Sleestak, built mostly with trash. Most people called it the Creature from the Black Lagoon, I'll live with that.

My Lincoln Mummy and Frankenstein are still kicking after a year in storage. One parent laughed at the Mummy's comically oversized shoes, which in reality are my everyday shoes, so I had a good cry.

But enough of deformities, on to the contest. I want to say thank you to the amazing input i got this year, I didn't get to use everything but I did enter every name into the contest and plan on sending all of you a small token of appreciation, onto the winners drawn by my lovely wife:

John sent in this awesome picture circa 1978, I gotta say that Hulk costume is so full of righteousness probably because it's not a comic book Hulk costume, that's a Lou Ferrigno costume baby!

Christmas in the 1970s Contest!

For the month of December, I'm running a contest for submissions to theupcoming book "Christmas in the 1970s" send us your best vintage snapshot/Polaroid of the day along with the date and location and anythingspecial about it (Cool present, you got in a fight with your sister, greatfamily memory etc) and we'll add it to the "Christmas in the 1970s" blogas well as consider it for the book itself. (So, yes, that means if you submit,you're granting us permission to use the photo on the Web and in print. You've been duly warned.)

On December 23rd, I'll draw three names for "Fabulous 1970s prize packs" containing trading cards, DVDs and more.

The Save Frightenstein Contest

Yesterday Critical Mass releasing issued a statement over at Frightenstein.com saying that the show's broadcast rights are set to expire Dec 31 2009 and so far, no one has picked them up for 2010, meaning the show would go off the air completely.

Being a fan of this Canadian institution, I don't want to live in a Frightenstein-less 2010. Critical Mass is calling to fans to help by contacting any of the following stations and expressing how you want to see Frightenstein remain on the air:

PS Contest: Schoolyard BS Rumours

It's contest time again and instead of trivia, I thought it'd be more fun to share personal stories, namely "What's the worst BS rumour you heard on the playground as a kid?" I'll share a couple:

In 78, I was that unfortunate kid who didn't see Star Wars when it came out, my pal Gerry claimed to have seen it. Gerry regailed me about the scene in which Obi Wan plays the Star Wars theme on the organ in the Millenium Falcon or the ending in which Luke, fresh from killing Darth Vader, deposits his light saber in R2 D2, who promptly blows up.

In '79, I finally caught Star Wars and can remember sitting in the dark thinking "Hey Gerry is filthy liar!" When confronted, he simply denied saying any of it, I was crazy you see....

In fifth grade, I sat next to a kid named Geoff, one of the cooler kids in school who told me he had seen an episode of "Battle of the Planets" that revealed Zoltar's identity to be none other than "a scientist at Center Neptune". It was a shocking series ender that other deskmate Dean confirmed as seeing. Must be a rare, lost episode....

PlaidStallions 3rd Birthday Bash!!

It's our third Birthday here at PlaidStallions (give or take a week, I need to write this stuff down) so I thought what better way to celebrate than to run a contest and give out some "party favours" so to speak.

So, the theme of this contest is Favourite Things. Namely, what is your favourite thing about PlaidStallions? send it to our mail box and you're in!

The top two names drawn will get a copy of our DVD plus a complete set of trading cards, the next three will win complete sets of the trading cards including two never before seen mystery cards!

I'll announce the winners on Tuesday's blog, in the mean time, here are some of my favourite things about this project, other than the great people I've met:

Mall Appearances are just something that stuck with me as a kid, if you're reading this on Saturday morning I'm actually meeting Darth Vader right now.

Fashion Mockery Everybody kind of lost their minds in the 1970s and we're all better for it. While I can't believe some of the styles, I wish the butterfly collar would make a come back.

Lincoln Monsters working on this site reconnects me with lots of childhood favourites but none as prized for me as the Lincoln Monsters. I'm a huge geek for these hastily made figures and am still actively seeking some out (ahem)

Rack Toys I love cataloging Rack Toys, the stranger, the better. It doesn't look like I'll ever run out of material in this department.

Enough about me, tell me yours and thanks for reading my weird ramblings and ignoring my horrible grammar and Canadian spelling for these past 3 years.
