Toy-Ventures: AHI Action Apeman

Clearly inspired by the Mego Planet of the Apes action figures, the AHI Action Apeman are some of the boldest knock offs ever produced, I'll explain why I think that in this video.

We're back and well, we're not really going anywhere much these days, so let's talk about all the stuff we're watching.

Our subject this week is what we're watching to pass the time, not only from our physical media collections but from the various streaming services available in this wondrous age.
Topics include Doom Patrol Season 2, the oeuvre of Al Adamson, The Facts of Life, Danger Diabolik, what movies work best with MST3k riffs, Fletch, The Jerk, Matt Berry, campiness, What we do in the shadows, record city, and Zardoz cosplay.

Woke up on the dark side of the bed today....

Happy Monday! Here is another Star Wars bedspread that hopefully brings you some joy. I had the pillowcase for this set (I think I still do) and this always transports me to being 7.

If your mum actually made you this playset in 1980, know that I envy you. Also, please share photos.

Toy Ventures: Top Ten Silliest Incredible Hulk Items

Marvel Comics The Hulk became a superstar in the 1970s and the licensing deals followed, as much as we love the big guy, not all of his merchandise made sense. This special episode counts down some of the silliest pieces of merchandise the Hulk put his name on. Special thanks to "Toynerd" David Lockwood for all the help on this one!

Lone Ranger Ready to Ride Again

One of the things I love most about this vintage article about the launch of the gorgeous line of Lone Ranger action figures by Hubely/Gabriel.

The point made by the president about how parents would recognize these characters and buy them totally works. One Halloween I was told I was going to be the Lone Ranger by my mother and I think it's because she saw the costume, geeked out and bought it for me....

Buck Rogers Giant Water Squirter

My friend Corey LeChat sent me this incredible find, a Buck Rogers water gun by Barton (makers of the Green Avenger and other classic 1970s water weaponry) and I wasn't even aware this existed!

The Empire Strikes Back Again!

Seeing as it's #1 at the box office again, let's relive when it was #1 in the toy aisle as well. It's hard to believe but prior to the release of Empire, the sales dip of SF toys had many publications asking is it all just a fad

The Mandala Effect

Does anyone else long for the days of funky stuff like geometric thread design art? I'd totally put one of these in my living room.

Big Jim PACK Attack

I love everything about this early Big Jim PACK page from the 1975 Wards catalog, note the rough logo, and the description that lists the P.A.C.K members as reformed bad guys. Both of those things would disappear when the toys hit shelves.

5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

Mork Bubble Gum in a plastic egg- I vividly remember when these hit my town and watching kids in the schoolyard playing with those eggs like they were space ships.

Spider-Man Fun Poncho by Ben Cooper- We're in the middle of a heatwave here, I can't really put draping yourself in unbreathing PVC under the umbrella of "Fun" but to each their own....

1976 Kenner Toys Catalog- You may have figured out that I collect old toy catalogs, you're very perceptive if you have. This Kenner from 1976 is full of awesome, iconic Six Million Dollar Man items and is an excellent price to start you on your way.

GI Joe Super Adventure Team Colorforms Set- I think this might be one of my favorite colorforms sets of all time, mainly because it celebrates the brief teaming of Bulletman, Joe and Atomic Man.

Moonraker Book and Tape Set- What the heck is this? It was released in 1985, long after Moonraker and I'm curious it retells the movie or the book's story (which is totally different). Gah, I wanna know.....

Toy-Ventures: Top Ten 70s Peg Warmers

Somebody has to be last picked. No matter how cool the toyline is, there is likely at least one that kids didn’t want and was forced to get that dreaded big red sticker one. This week’s Toy Ventures takes a look at some beloved properties (that we love, I swear!) and looks at the “last picked” figure from every assortment counting down to the #1 least popular action figure of the 1970s. Agree with me? Disagree with me? It’s all good, I want to hear your thoughts.

Toy-Ventures Magazine Indie Go-Go ends tomorrow, if you’re into print publications, you may want to check this out: https://igg.me/at/7YMYRa6w7z4/x/23754935#/ Pod-Stallions FB Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/podstallions/
