Both Crappy. I think I know what the kid in the bottom right is yelling. He kind of looks like the talking G.I. Joe box, if one of the things Joe said was "what the hell am I wearing?"

Girl's Toy Day!

Seeing as it's my darlin' daughter's birthday today and her long (and much missed) afternoon naps are what inspired me to create this blog three years and five days ago (which I probably should have mentioned) I thought I'd dedicate the day to her favorite subject, dolls!

In this case Barbie's with two classic commercials from our DVD, first is the Barbie Townhouse.

Most Mego collectors I know would liken this to the Wayne Foundation playset but did you also know it was released for Big Jim in Europe? It was a killer spy headquarters that makes you wish you born in Italy, You can see it here.

The second commercial is for the Fashion Face, which is one of those disembodied heads you put makeup on, they creep me out and my daughter wants one, in fact, she wants this one. Something tells me I won't find this at Toys R Us.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have go buy some toys...

More Summer Pimp Action

Chad and Terry are definitely more stylish than Josh and Orville, it's almost like they're forcing you too look at their belly buttons. I must....look....away....

Brick Mantooth Sings

Well not really but I kind of got inspired by this Wards photo of spokesmodel Brick Mantooth because it looked like one of those cheesy LPs my dad used to sell to truck stops and Macs milk stores back in the day. He had cases of weird country albums and 8 tracks of people I've never heard of, so I photoshopped this up:

Can you feel it? You ought to hear his rendition of "Going Out of My Head", it's panty peeler.

Torpedo Fist Trading Card

The final new card is Torpedo Fist, one of my favourite action figures as a kid mostly because, he could punch other action figures!

I didn't plan on doing two Big Jim characters so close together but when Livio from Bigjim.es put this image on the fourm, it was just too tempting not to.

As an added bonus, I've put some images of the origin of Torpedo Fist from the back of his box. It's not the most logical story in the world but it all made perfect sense to me then.

The Riddler, Catwoman and The Joker Team up!

Another gem courtesy of Lou, here are the villains from "Bugs Bunny Meets the Superheroes". That Joker is creepy!

This is the final picture from this series but there is a little more. I got some help with these negatives from the photo department at my office and she generously rescanned and cleaned up these photos, so here are the dynamic duo again.

Daisy Toys Catalog Featuring Sheriff Lobo!

Daisy has been the premier maker of toy caps guns since well long before I can remember and in this 1981 catalog they did something I am too excited about, they created Sheriff Lobo merchandise!

It's almost impossible to find BJ and The Bear Toys let alone anything based on it's short lived spin off, the misadventures of Sheriff Lobo. There are other great items featured that year including Laser Guns (it was the sci fi craze you know) and more western items that a stick can be shook at.

Cylon Day!

Yay, it's Cylon day, not the sexy Cylons of recent times but the old school kind (which if you find them sexy, I guess that's ok). First off is the new Cylon Trading card, (#21 for anybody counting) I never had these 12" electronic figures but they make for a more interesting card then the 3" figures, so there you go.

Even as a kid I found this figure kind of off model, it's because it's a recycled "Captain Lazer" from the 1960s "Major Matt Mason" line of toys. The Colonial Warrior from this line even has the Captain's head (and white hair presumably to make him look like Lorne Green?)

I'm gonna go with the day bed, it reminds me of the dress my date wore to my sister's wedding, we made out a little bit before she threw up in my living room. Oh, I've said far too much...

Amazing Space Lego Display

The Big Toronto Toy show was this past weekend and while I went home empty handed (well, save for the Barbie my daughter bought)I really dug this giant Space Lego display they had going on.

Space Lego completely rules and I've always envied it's collectors (including my own wife) I just love those happy smiling space people. Anyway, my wife is working a similiar display for our home and as much as I'll love it, I will also feel inferior thanks to this amazing display, thanks a lot Toronto Toy Show!

The head in the way is really my fault, seeing as I passed on the "Big Noggin" gene...

I also managed to make this video of the events, sorry for the "Blair Witch" effect....

Scenes from Toy Fair 1975

I love these little black and white vignettes taken from the floor of the NYC toy fair, while almost every square inch of toy fair is now covered by the "nerd media" (That ain't a dig BTW, I'm a card carrying member) it's hard to find good photos from the 70s. My dad was actually at this toy fair, wish he'd taken some photos...

That's the Matchbox Fighting Furies toy display, for those not in the know, they were a killer series of pirate action figures. One of these days I'll get around to doing a gallery on them.

That's the AMT show room and all those sweet, sweet Star Trek Model kits. I can't tell you how many of those I ruined with my impatience and lack of talent.

Casper visits the viewmaster booth, I can see Superfriends giftsets behind the sales reps. That sad looking Casper suit was used in the comics for a series of ads, I can see his hands!

Schaper's Super Toe football is something I haven't really touched on here yet, they seem to have gone all out with their display.

The Six Million Dollar Man Trading Card

It pretty much had to happen, Card #20 is the Six Million Dollar Man and for good reason.

My own mother will tell me how she was almost trampled to death at a Zellers store trying to get me this guy for Christmas 1975, (she succeeded) One of the problems of working on this blog is that it gives me the inclination to reunite with some old toys I never had the desire to before and I bought my first bionic man doll this week. It was bigger than me...

I know I have a vintage shot of me with ol' Steve Austin but I can't find it for the life of me.

Bugs Bunny Meets the Superheroes Part 2

Continuing our series of flashbacks thanks to my friend Lou's vintage negatives we have a shot of what is the Bugs Bunny portion of the show (click on it for a larger look), a whole stage full of Looney Toons characters. It looks odd now but must have been something to see then.

Ideal 1976 Evel Knievel Catalog

By 1976, Ideal Toys was coasting a very powerful wave of having one of the top selling toys in the country. Evel Knievel was a household name and despite announcing his retirement twice in 1975, returned to jump buses and he attempted to jump a tank full of sharks (inspired by Jaws, another Ideal toys license) which kept his name in the public eye and on Christmas wish lists.

The Cardboard Black Hole

I found this ad in a Canadian Toy Trade Magazine so I'm not sure if the toy itself ever got made. If it did, I must own it as it is full of win. I've mentioned it before but I love the Black Hole, maybe even more than Star Wars. Probably because it's weirder and maybe a little emotionally scarring. I mean, Star Wars didn't have any disembowellings, now did it?
