Hulk' SWIM!

As Rack Toys go, this one makes more sense than most Hulk branded items do, as I'm semi-positive that he probably can swim?

Don't hold me to that, I haven't read a Hulk comic since 1979...

Mattel flash gordon action figures

This is another toy line that I'm smitten with but just don't have the money, space or time for. I especially covet that whacky inflatable rocket ship.  I'll circle back to you someday my precious....

If you haven't checked out the cartoon series this is based on, do so immediately!!!!!

Pod Stallions Episode 31: Christopher Lee

This month as we lost one of the most iconic character actors to walk this earth in the form of Christopher Lee.

This episode tries to discuss as much as possible about the man and his exhaustive career, the hammer horror days, James Bond, Space:1999, Captain Invincible, Starship Invasions and that time he fought Captain America.

We, of course, digress into a discussion about action figures, Doctor Who, Peter Cushing and much, much more.

Say it with Ban-Lon this Father's Day

This Father's day say "I love you Dad" with Ban-Lon knits.

But please, for the love of God, stop asking us what the stuff is, we honestly don't know, it just oozed out of the ground one day.

Batman Chute

I'm not 100% this is truly officially licensed or where it came from but one thing I know for certain, this is the least confident Batman figure I've ever seen.

Popy Godzilla!

This year I managed to cross a toy off my want list that has been there since I first saw it in 1995. The Popy "Jumbosaurus" is the Japanese equivalent to the Mattel Shogun Warriors Godzilla. Mattel kept a few of the trademark items (like the firing fist and the wheels on the feet) but the differences outweigh the similarities as I'll detail below.

First off, I didn't get this guy in the box, I don't have that kind of money. Here is a shot of the box back in 1978. From a toy store appearance of Ultra-Seven.

As you can see, he's more "Godzilla-y" than our version.

The flicking toungue action that the US version has isn't here, instead he has a talk box in his stomach.

You can see the talk box here, wanna know what he sounds like? Thanks to some help from my daughter, I've created a little video that answers that.

And of course, it's inevitable that I'd see a "side by side" comparison with the two (expect another series of pictures when the Toynami version comes out)

The US G has is slightly taller and more rounded in general.

This looks like the greatest sandbox fight ever.

Christopher Lee RIP

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Christopher Lee, a man whose contributions to pop culture seem limitless. Growing up he was Dracula and Frankenstein, visited moonbase alpha, fought both Captain America and James Bond and looked cooler than both of them doing it.

To say he was one of my favorite people in the world is an understatement.

Lee lived a long life, working to the very end (even recording metal albums in his 80s) and we are all better for it.

Rest in Peace Christopher Lee...

1980 Azrak Hamway (AHI) Toy Catalog

As one of the premiere rack toy manufacturers of the 1970s, Azrak Hamway International (most commonly referred to as AHI by collectors) ended the decade with a bang featuring new products featuring their hottest licenses.

Most notably in this book are the Marvel and DC superheroes, Star Trek, KISS and the Universal Monsters.

It is truly a fun catalog loaded with my favourite toys from the era like parachuting superheroes, Mr Spock Bop Bags and ....

Superhero Pipes! You can't make this stuff up.
