Parker Brothers really seemed to dominate my video game purchases in the early eighties and seeing this toyfair ad from '83 made me smile.

They had my favourite arcade game of all time (Tutankham) and the Star Wars license, so my loyalty was assured...

If I didn't have one of their games, it surely was on my wishlist, someday you will be mine Spider-Man!

Child World Toy Sale from 30 years ago

The Ultimate Home Gaming System

The Oddessey by Magnavox (the TV people) was the world's first home gaming system, it came with plastic sheets you could put over your TV to simulate colour game play. I found one of these in my aunt's basement one day around 1980, even though it was only a few years old it looked like a cross between a relic and some sort of prop from "Space:1999" to my then Atari riddled brain.

I'd like to find one now and present it my "X-Box" raised offspring...

Atari Wars

I am a veteran of the video game wars, fought mostly on my schoolyard. I, being of the clan of Atari, waged daily combat against those who had sworn allegiance to George Plimpton and quoted from the Book of Mattel. Mostly about how much superior the Intellivision system really was. I can remember HATING kids who had Intellivision and those damned commercials, I don't know why I took it so personal, I guess it was because I had no defense against "If it's said on TV,it must be true!"

My best friend at the time had Intellivision, and since he was Switzerland we played it all the time, it was a fun system and I liked a lot of the games, there I said it.

I'm always happy when I have enough of these images to fill another page. In our sixth installment we visit several toy stores on Halloween (kind of fitting). See a store visit by a giant MonChichi in 1983 and check out the many images from the video game explosion of the early eighties chockfull of Atari and INtellivision consoles and enough electronic games that your head will explode.

Caveman Game Consoles

I remember the day my dad brought home a telestar, he went up several points in popularity. a few years later with the onset of Atari and several (sleazy) arcades opening up in town, it made the ol' telestar look down right Paleolithic.

I imagine if you were to make one now, it would be the size of a quarter.

All About Donkey Kong

Like a lot of kids, I was arcade obsessed in 1982, I even recall buying magazines about Donkey Kong. The kid who got Colecovision could guarentee popularity for much of 1983 (this expired by '84)

Those table top arcade games by Coleco that inspired hours of drooling for me. I remember really liking the commercials featuring "Video Man", who would use his powers to shrink the arcade games to table top size.

The years have not been kind to Video Man, with his supercuts hairstyle and silver members only jacket he looks kind of like a dorky uncle you avoid at family reunions. Again, the memory cheats...
