Aurora Monster Scenes Store Display!
We've got an incredible treat this Friday before Halloween in the form of this incredible Aurora Monster Scenes store display, courtesy of my pal Matt, who will take over from here with the editorial.
This was actually assembled and painted at the Aurora factory, and then shipped built up to hobby stores.
Frankenstein doesn't come with the set. He is a vintage one from my childhood
There is little I can say about the Monster Scenes that hasn't already been said except that, in my opinion, they are the single greatest monster toy line to come out of the 1970s.
They surpass even the Ahi monsters, as far as I'm concerned. If ever a toy line typified the early 1970s, this was it.
Only in that decade could you get a model kit that was an action figure with a diorama that you built in order to reenact scenes of torture.
No other decade would dare market a toy to kids rated "X" as a double-entendre. No other toy was made in that decade that so simply and directly tapped into that pre-adolescent boy mindset-- that transitory period where one is on the verge of transitioning away from loving "kids stuff" like monsters, and starting to think about girls...
No one else has ever released a toy with that same cheerful mix of innocence and sadism. One would consider such a feat to be near impossible. But Aurora did. And it was the rock upon which they sank.
Here is the set with a random assortment of boxed Monster Scenes-- including the rare package variant "Victim" renamed as "Dr Deadly's Daughter" for Canadian markets.

Headquarters for Evel Knievel Action Products
Discovered this in some documents featuring Ideal toys from 1976 that I'll feature on the site in the very near future, a photo of the different Ideal toys store displays, the belle of the ball being Mr Knievel.
The displays for Mousetrap and the Junkyard game are particularly inspired, I miss the days of paintings on toy boxes...

Bionic Displays
I'm really digging these store display shots I found in a Kenner promo piece for the Bionic Man. I honestly remember the outfit display as a kid, which had no effect. I had a million Big Jim and GI joe outfits as a kid but had no desire to change Steve Austin's clothes.
Fashions for the Bionic Woman make so much sense, I imagine they sold very well.

Greatest store display ever
Jodi sent in the wonderful store display that she spied in an antique mall. It's sadly not for sale, which is too bad because i'd be tempted to get it despite the marital strife it would (understandably) cause. Can't explain why magically being whisked to the Sears Men's department in 1974 gives me goose bumps (didn't like clothes shopping then and surprise, still don't) but it does and these Mantoothian images make me happy.

Planet of the Apes store display
My pal Corey, a purveyor of amazing treats and the guy who gets a majority of my pay cheque (Seriously check out his Ebay auctions) sent me this photo of a Planet of the Apes store display from 1974.
As a lover of all things POTA, it was a joy to see but the name "Deka" didn't exactly ring any bells when it came to Ape merchandise. So I had to do some digging.
Turns out Deka made Planet of the Apes cups, mugs and bowls like the one pictured below. Honestly, how did anyone have the foresight to save this store display?

Popular Kenner Toys as seen on TV
I got an early Christmas present in my mailbox the other day in the form of these Kenner store display photos, which were likely meant as internal documents showcasing their hottest toys for 1978.
As we all know that was a year of Bionic Men and Women, Stretch Armstrong and massive block buster known as Star Wars. These photos make me weak in the knees.

More Fisher Price Store Displays
Brian from Ant-Toys strikes again!,we last heard from him when he sahred his amazing find of 1970s Fisher Price Adventure People Store Displays and now he's back to share some toy history, this time it's about other FP lines like Muppets and Little People:
I still have a few of these Little People vehicles kicking around, this display is more awesome because it's filled.
And of course, FP was all about the Muppet Show for a good long while, I do remember this header card from department stores back in the day.
FP's Muppet show action figures are just killer, I had the Gonzo but I honestly never used the little puppet stick it came with.
I vaguely remember these, not something I was into mind you.

Fisher Price Adventure People Store Displays
I'm currently working on the 1978 Fisher Price Catalog, it's large so it's taking a some time. One of the things I love about any old toy catalog are the occasional shot of a store display, they're usually pretty biased to one thing but they give a little look of what was. I thought I'd share these today and give a taste of what's to come.
Above is a display of individual Adventure Team figures, I don't think I ever got individual figures as a kid but I remember flicking through this rack to see all of the characters.
An entire display of Daredevil Sky Divers, a skydiver that really worked. I got one for Easter 1979, and bought one for my son last year. 
The aisle of adventure, I don't think I ever saw a store this well stocked with Adventure People, I think I'd remember that.More Fisher Price:
