Buck Rogers Disc Pistol

So, last Thursday when I posted about Star Trek Tracer Guns, i received a mystery gift from a friend, a Buck Rogers Tracer gun!

This seems like a sign from the universe but I'm not sure what it wants me to do....

The Amazing Spider-Brush

I'm totally fascinated with little bits of weird super hero merchandise like this.

Here we have the marriage of hair care and our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, whose mantra of putting his name on everything would put Garfield to shame. This is all the handiwork of the standard Pyroxoioid Corp. (sexy name!)

This set solves a big mystery to me, that's a repainted Marx Spider-Man figure (which was also sold by Fleetwood Toys a year earlier) and that carry case is often mistaken for a Mego item.

This is a pretty well thought out attempt to get boys excited about grooming, it probably didn't work but I gotta give props for the effort...

1977 Fleetwood Toys Catalog

Fleetwood toys was one of the biggest and most prolific manufacturers of Rack Toys during the 1970s and 80s.

In 1977, they were truly on top of their game as evidenced by the massive amount of licenses they had this year including the Marvel Comics Superheroes, Welcome Back Kotter, Starsky and Hutch, The Rookies, SWAT, Tarzan, the Space Sentinels even Ba-Ba Blacksheep!

It's so jam packed with cool rack toys, there is no way you can't find something you like.

Sweathogs Action Bank

"OK, so instead of a skeleton grabbing the coins and dragging it back to it's coffin, we have a creepy two headed Juan Epstein dragging it back to a box? Brilliant! Get those into production!"- A very drunk toy executive in 1975.

Charlie's Angels Beauty Set

There is nothing like the concerned face of Farrah Fawcett Majors to help you with your morning beauty routine.

I want to add that when working on the book, I couldn't find one of these flipping things, now I'm tripping over them....

Again with the Space Sentinels

Less than a month ago i posted the Hercule magnetic figure I found from this series, a kindly reader pointed this out to me. The Space Sentinels explorer, even has a sign to avoid confusions. I could not love this more.

More Space Sentinels

I am overjoyed to find this, a Hercules Magnetic figure from Space Sentinels. Years ago I found an Astrea, so this is a pretty big deal. Also, Herc was on my beloved "Tarzan and the Super 7", so this is win/win for me.

Eats Me Dusts!

I was recently gifted this, the kind person who found it thought i'd dig it. The gesture alone floored me but so did the toy.  Popeye rack toys could fill football fields but the majority of them are nondescript items with little connection to the character, some of them laughable.

Leave it to Fleetwood to go the extra mile, I'm positive I've seen Popeye in a racecar before and I kind of love the little Popeye in the car.

He just puts the whole thing over the top for me.

SWAT chute

My memories of SWAT are limited to the theme song and playing with plastic rifles, were there parachutes on the show or is this just yet another repurposed rack toy?

Tarzan in the Valley of the Dinosaurs

Given my unhealthy obsession for all things Tarzan combined with my love of Rack Toys, it should be of no surprise to anyone that I flipped out when I saw this.

It's so great I'll forgive the fact that Tarzan is clearly a giant!

Mighty Marvel Superheroes

This one ends a mystery for me, in 1976 Fleetwood toys released the Marx Marvel Superheroes figures in a slightly smaller size but the big difference is they were fully painted. That box brings me joy.

I've got one of these (Spider-Man) but I might as well put this out there interwebs, I'm buying.

Fleetwood 1979 Catalog: Marvel Superheroes, Buck Rogers, Starsky & Hutch

\

There is no better time capsule into 1970s pop culture than a rack toy catalog especially if it's one by Fleetwood toys.

'79 is a great example as the company had some fantastic choices, from the TV cop antics of Vega$, Chips and Starsky and Hutch, to the less popular How the West was won. Marvel superheroes both A  and B list were present and we had Buck Rogers and Salvage 1 present to please the Sci-Fi Kids.

Gamblin' with Vega$

Fleetwood marketed toys based on Vega$ which I always viewed as a "late night grown up program" as a kid. I'm especially amused at the tiny roulette table.

It kind of bugs me that Fleetwood thought Vega$ was rack toy gold but Quincy got no love...

Tarzan Safari

That safari truck is no match for giant Tarzan.

I absolutely LOVE stuff like this, even as a kid I couldn't have spent my $1.29 quicker. A lot of what I bought for the book, I sold off but this one I kept. There is another version with the Phantom that I need to track down.

Hang gliding with the Hulk

As ridiculous as the concept of these toys are, I have to admit that I think the little Hulk and Spidey figures they come with are awesome.

You should buy these.

Fly Avengers, Fly!

Ahhh the Avengers, Thor, Iron Man, Vision and Ca...Human Torch?

This one kind of confuses me, Fleetwood toys makes Avengers toys, even carefully using the logo and adding the Vision, a character who saw little to no merchandise but pass on the always popular Captain America for Johnny Storm, who isn't an Avenger?

I'm inclined to think that they did it because Cap can't fly but seems so logical....
