Heroes World Bag

Damien shared me this vintage shopping bag from Heroe's World, it's not for sale, I checked. Like a lot of kids, I dreamed of visiting one of their stores and never did so this little piece of memorabilia is so cool to see.

Odyssey Video Games

The Odyssey video game system was the #1 choice of dads who purchased a video disk player instead of a VCR.

Toy-Ventures: ERTL Star Trek 3

We're back after a short break and going to take a look at a 1980s property for a change.

This week is all about the rarely talked about ERTL Star Trek 3 line, one of the most obscure toy lines of the 1980s. We delve into the back story of Star Trek movie toys, how these got made and why they didn't really succeed.

Escape from New York: The Boardgame

I really need to get this game for my next family game night. I always equate this movie with Starlog, they really gave it a lot of coverage and hyped me to see it. That just took a while cause I was ten when it came out...

B,J and the Bear model by AMT

I really want to give AMT mad props for including the show's true star in the cabin. I also like to pretend that "BJ and the Bear" took place in the "Planet of the Apes" universe and Bear would eventually rise up over his oppressor.

Toy-Ventures: Torpedo Fist from Big Jim's Wolfpack!

Our focus this week is one of the top agents in the Professional Agents Crime Killers (or P.A.C.K) , the amazing Torpedo Fist.

We talk about the evolution of Mattel's Big Jim, the birth of the PACK, Jack Kirby, the launch of "Double Trouble", Torpedo Fist's origin story and even touch how the character ended up on the Masters of the Universe (sorta kinda?) .

It's a jam-packed Toy-Ventures and one I'm certain you'll enjoy!

Bags of Fun: Action Figures

As a kid, I figured out that combining these sets with other dimestore novelties could result in some B-Movie goodness, so I had Cowboys vs Giant bugs and Army Men vs Dinosaurs quite often. This is the only skill of merit that I taught my children.

Toy-Ventures: Planet of the Apes Adventure Set by Amsco

Our focus this week is the incredible Planet of the Apes Adventure Playset by Amsco (A division of Milton Bradley) and these awesome 3D environments are entirely made of corrugated cardboard and hours of fun.

The folks at Amsco clearly had a lot of fun designing these because they are loaded with Easter eggs and nods to both the movies and the television series, it's one of the coolest Apes toys ever made!

Toy-Ventures: Kung Fu Stuff!

Note: Warner Brothers doesn't like that i used the show intro in the video and has blocked it on mobile devices. Sorry.

Instead of looking at a single toy, I thought I'd share my collection of merchandise from the 1970s tv classic "Kung Fu". There wasn't a ton of merchandise for the show but there is plenty of neat stuff like lunchboxes, figurines, viewmasters, and even comics!

Snatch this pebble from my hand and join me on this toy-venture!

Pod Stallions 71: Summer of 1989

We're back with an all-new episode and what better time to wax nostalgic about the summer of 1989 than the 30th anniversary (sigh) of the release of Tim Burton's "Batman".

We get into the Superhero event of the summer along with the "other" comic book movie that season, delve into Star Trek V, Do the Right Thing, The Abyss, Jason Takes Manhattan and of course, the hit of the decade, Young Einstein!

We take a side step into our minimum wage jobs, movie theatres, comic stores and how much i miss my metabolism.

We hope you enjoy.

Please  give us spirited debate in our new Facebook group.

Toy-Ventures: The Zython from Mattel's Space:1999 line

This week we talk about one of the rarest action figures I've ever come across, the highly elusive Zython from the Mattel Space:1999 action figure collection. I don't own this incredibly rare carded example but thankfully, I do know someone that has one and I examine it and give it's interesting back story. 5 Awesome things on eBay this week

Buck Rogers Lampshade Kit- I can't think of anything that would light up a room better than Pamela Hensley and Erin Gray in this wonderful 3-D piece from the UK. I love it's not the stock art but an original creation.

Incredible Hulk light switch cover- Speaking of lights, this 1970s light switch cover is everything I love about 70s stuff, totally funky and just slightly off model, everybody wins!

Battle of the Planets Keychains- I am really in love with these, they're pricey but honestly, I'd never seen them before a week ago. I'd settle for the Phoenix and yes, it would become my key ring.

Tomland Strawberry Shortcake RipOff-  Toymaker Tomland Toys was no stranger to ripping off concepts, I mean these are the people behind the Sonic Man and the Star Raiders but they seemed to have run out of clever the day they named this. Seriously, Redhead? That's lazy Tomland, even for you....

Mattel Slime Monster Game- As a kid completely verboten to have Slime of any kind (Shag Carpeting) I do find the whole concept weirdly alluring.  This is the first time I've ever run into the game and had a looksie, now i want it.

Kung Fu Super 8 Movies

As if I didn't have enough obsessions, I've recently discovered Kung Fu movies came on Super 8 reels, I own a projector and I love Kung Fu movies, so guess what happened?

Anyway, the beauty of collecting these is nobody cares, seriously the three films I showcase here? Under $20. A total win/win.

These fine films will be debuting on my deck this weekend!

Super Rare!

One of the nicest things that goes on at MegoMeet is that the dealer's humour me and allow me to document stuff I can't afford.

Case in point this Official Superman Super Streak by Azrak Hamway, one of the rarest rack toys I've ever come across.

My best guess is these didn't sell well due to the price point, the battery operated items from AHI always seem to have been produced in much lower numbers than stuff like the parachutists.

If you're inclined to purchase this lovely man of steel, you can contact Vintage Toy Rescue but rest assured that $3 price tag is just there for atmosphere.

Toy-Ventures: My Mego Meet Haul

I've just returned from my favourite toy convention of all time, Mego Meet and please excuse the sleepy voice but I haven't had much sleep!

Thought it would be fun to go over the various items I picked up at this weekend's festivities, stuff from Planet of the apes, the Monster Squad, Stretch Armstrong, Godzilla, Kolchak the Night Stalker and hey I even bought a Mego figure from Buck Rogers.
