Toy-Ventures 6: Star Blazers toys by Nomura

This week's installment of Toy-Ventures is all about the amazing action figure line based on the Television series we knew as "Star Blazers".

I get into my personal love of this series and why this is the toyline I wish I could have had as a kid.

Star Blazers action figure gallery

star blazers
Star Blazers was a huge phenomenon in my neighbourhood when it hit the airwaves in 1979, my friends and I would gather every day at the one house whose ariel got the channel just to see if the Argo did indeed save earth.

That's why these action figures produced by Nomura in Japan blew my mind when I first saw them. Like Battle of the Planets, Star Blazers is an action figure line I really wanted as a kid!

Star blazers

So I present to you not only my dream line of action figures but possible one of the greatest playsets I've ever seen and brother, that's saying a lot.

Space Shark

Man, I loves me some copyright infringing knock offs and Space Shark here is a triple play! The front featuring Mark from "Battle of the Planets" getting an assist by the Argo from "Star Blazers" neither which tie into the shark motif very well but rest assured....

Space Jaws is on the side panel! What these three properties have to do with one another isn't a question I intend to answer in my lifetime.

The gun itself is all kinds of cool featuring a shark face on the end, it kind of sells itself really.

Podstallions 19: Japanese toys

Episode 19 sees Jason and Brian explain their deep affection for toys from the land of the rising sun.

Even though we both grew up in North America, our childhoods were made happier by the imports that did manage to hop across the Pacific leaving us with a thirst for more.

Japanese Toys tries to cover all the bases (but we're going need to do a part 2 sometime) including topics such as Shogun Warriors, Kamen Rider, Microman, Ultraman, Star Blazers, Mecha Kong, Japanese Spider-Man, Eidai Grip, Gerry Anderson, Jason's Tokyo mishaps and Brian's current addiction to Japanese auctions.

Episode 19 will have you finding a proxy bidding service.

PS don't buy us things.
