This month's episode is devoted to Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles", not the book so mentioned (although it is mentioned) but the epic three evening NBC mini series from 1980 starring Rock Hudson! Topics include childhood fears, TV Spider-Man, cheap-o Rack Toys, Arthur C Clarke, Starlog, poster collecting, ventriloquist dummies, Barry Morse and much, much more. So journey with us to the red planet! Agree with us, have your own childhood recollection of the series? give us spirited debate on our facebook wall.
I have a real soft spot for generic knock-off action figures and I find this page from France kind of mind-blowing as I've never seen many of these "Steve the Adventurer" toys.
The Mego like Steve was known as "Demo Man" in other parts of the world and his head is a really blatant copy of Big Jim but unlike a lot of KO figures, there's a higher than normal amount of care in this guy.
Steve Austin and his crew were truly an international hit as evidenced by this wonderful catalog page from France. I love how Jaimie is now "Super Jaimie" but Maskatron? That's multilingual baby!
Crystar is pretty bittersweet for me as it's possibly the last action figure I ever purchased as a kid, I was in the last few weeks of being 12 and the winds of change were blowing. I still think they were neat.
