What better time to do a photo review of a shiny new Godzilla toy than the month of October?
This isn't any Godzilla but Toynami's retake of our childhood classic, the Shogun Warriors Godzilla. I tried to resist this but seeing as I was denied the original as a kid, it was inevitable.
So let's take a long loving look at the king of all monster shall we? A very comprehensive after the jump!

First off, that is one BIG box, there is no sneaking him into the house past your spouse. My children fit in his shipping container.
Toynami really put some effort into making this a more accurate depiction of the Big G.
But of course, he still has the shooting fist.
And the flicking tongue but now it's blue flame.
The tail is much longer and the spine is the big difference.
If Mattel had released one with these in the 1970s, half of us would be wearing eye patches right now.
He's still got the rolling wheels feet too.
But how does he look next to the classic?
It's here where you can see just how many changes were done.
I don't want to tell you how many takes this took.
I so wish I still had a sandbox.....
If you dig what you saw, I got mine at Entertainment Earth. They help keep the lights on around here, so if you shop there please use this link!
I did have the original, being a lifetime Godzilla fan, but even then I was disappointed at the design. My best memories of it were battles between it and my Tonka ambulance (definitely not to scale). The new one looks a little better, from the front anyway. Don't wanna pay $250 for it though!
ReplyDeleteGreat toy! Toynami did a wonderful job. I ended up getting the darker and lighter green releases. One day, it would be awesome if Toynami or some other adventurous company would make other Shogun Warrior styled kaiju. I've wanted a properly scaled Gigan, Ghidrah, Mothra, Varan, Anguiras, Minya, and King Kong ever since I was a kid.
