I don't think I've ever blogged about Kenner's Dusty, which was their attempt to get in some of those pink Barbie dollars. A lot of effort went into the line, and I think Kenner seemed to be intentionally making Dusty look far less glamourous. While Barbie was a model, Dusty looked like your neighbour.

ReplyDeleteI have to say, it's great seeing that she carried!
ReplyDeleteDusty had a horse named Nugget. It was a flocked palomino with "real" hair, and the first one I got as a Christmas present had rubbery legs and it wouldn't stand up! The tv commercial's song went like this:
ReplyDelete"Dusty, Dusty, Dusty
Ridin' Nugget, Nugget, Nugget.
They're ridin' east, they're ridin' west,
And now it's time to take a rest."
I believe Nugget came with campfire and pack equipment for those long trail rides.
Judging by that photo, she looks like Phyllis Diller. Can't imagine why that didn't take off...
ReplyDeleteFrom this picture, the interior features of that plane look just like the ones from Big Jim's action playset thing. Kenner must have reworked the same playset for both doll lines.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies: Big Jim is from Mattel, not Kenner. The Big Jim and Barbie planes are mostly the same, not this one. As you'd pointed out in another entry!
ReplyDeleteAs always, enjoying the blog!
Australia's Qantas airline decided to cut Dusty's hair short and dress her in the (then) current airhostess outfit and market her as "Jenny" I had one and I hated her for having flat feet and for not being Barbie!!

Its great to see the British airways plane and Dusty with the outfits. I always look but never find any info on her, i have that plane and some bits left of the outfits and was a greatly played with toy when i was a child.
