This dude whom I've dubbed "Lanny" (no doubt for his resemblance to Lanny McDonald from the Calgary Flames) is one of my favourite catalog models of all time. Not only is his look wonderfully stuck in the era but he just seems to be the king of the awkward catalog pose. I present to you his wonderful history:
This classic spread looks like the poster for some Dinner theatre show that runs 2 nights.
Lanny will however be best known for his incredible debut photo, this shot was taken just minutes before he was beaten and mocked by a pack of third graders.
Nice Jumpsuit. Michael Meyers--you look good with that mustache. Where's your butcher knike, buddy? Do you think they make custom names for the pocket??
ReplyDeleteWow -- who knew that a young Rip Taylor did some catalog modeling before throwing confetti on "The $1.98 Beauty Show" ...
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I imagine John Oates saw this dude and got incredibly jealous.
ReplyDeleteMore like Matt Houston, or a young Howard Stern.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm pretty sure I have a DVD entitled "Big Yank" (OK, it might be Vols. 1 through 8) ...
ReplyDeleteLadies and gentlemen, I give you Anchorman: Ron Burgandy.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, he's clearly the Burger King nowadays.
ReplyDeleteSomeone really needs to track down some of these "Heroes" of PLAID STALLIONS!
ReplyDeleteI was reminded of both Lee "Matt Houston" Horsley and Peter "Doctor Strange" Hooten. Lanny is truly Everyman.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is Harry Reems doing modeling in a Sears catalog?
ReplyDeleteThis is truly 70's Horror in all its keep-your-children-far-far-away splendor.
I remember it ALL too well.
Sear modeling: Too low budget to be GQ too hi brow to be J.C. Penny
