Mattel hoped that they ahd the next Star Wars with Ray Harryhausen's second trip into Greek Mythology in 1981's "Clash of the Titans" . While the film was a hit at the box office, it somehow didn't carry over to the toy shelves. Mattel released only one wave of figures and cancelled other merchandise based on the film.
The 1981 Catalog highlights what was released and gives us a little taste of what was in store had the toy line taken off:
Aaaaaw maaaan! We were gonna get a playset! Rip off!

If only the remake had the charm of this one...
ReplyDeleteAw man, that playset looks soooo sweet...
ReplyDeleteI could have sworn that there was a Medusa figure produced during this time - only it was just a woman with a head full of snakes as opposed to the snake-like appearance of Medusa in the movie. I've done a quick and dirty Google search, but all I get is the Gentle Giant figure produced a few years back.
ReplyDeleteI did have the Calibos figure, but his tail broke off almost immediately.
My Calibos is tailless too.
