This is a cool rack toy I picked up recently that brings back lots of happy memories. My Dad brought this back with him from the 1978 Toy Fair and I immediately cracked it open and made a huge mess on my desk. It maybe lasted a day tops but what a cool item with beautiful art.
Cool toys like the web maker never got into many department store wishbooks but they did get into the Heroes World Catalogs, the Megomuseum has a comprehensive gallery of old Heroes World comics and ads.
I had the webmaker too! Not exactly a web-shooter, in fact the webs it made were more like real spider webs. I remember an early ad for this showed cardboard cut-outs for the figures, but it was cool that the final product had tiny plastic figures instead.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, this is better than any new toy news! I had one of these and for the life of me could not remember what it was called! My dad picked this up for me and he even made a 2' x 2' city scape out of a piece of plywood and upright 2x4's at different heights so I could "web up" a city instead of mom's furniture! I even had a couple of refill packs. If I remember right the little "web shooter" was a case that you could store the figures in and I think the web fluid.
ReplyDeleteMan you made my day, that was an awesome toy!
My brother bought this. I remember it actually worked. It was kind of messy though. I think we wasted the web tube in about a couple of hours. I think my mom bought it for him at Woolworths.
ReplyDeleteI had this toy as well. Thanks for the post on it. Seeing the photo again brought back so many memories. I remember that I had the case long after I used up the fluid and lost the cool yellow figures.
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to buy my new and sealed Webmaker?
ReplyDeleteHave a really nice Webamaker on ebay right now!

I still have my web/figure holder with the Spiderman, Mary Jane and Green Goblin figures still stored inside. I've had it since the late-70s. Not sure exactly which store it came from, but I remember playing with the cityscape on the back of the packaging at my grandmother's house.
