Toilet Seats: 1975

I had the Owl one as a kid, being nostalgic for a toilet seat feels like rock bottom.
Things can only up from here!

Also, I had no idea it was #WorldToiletDay

  1. Memories of a novelty toilet seat cover seen in a relative's home. On the top was a cartoon of a sad man sitting in a toilet about to flush himself down, with the caption "Goodbye Cruel World". The flip side had two messages:
"GENTLEMEN: Stand close. It may be shorter than you think."
"LADIES: Please remain seated through entire performance."

The art and lettering had that cheesy-T-shirt-booth-on-the-midway vibe; not quite professional enough for the Spencer catalog.

At the time I marveled that grownups had the power to buy stuff like that and put it in their homes, but mostly didn't.

  2. Owls on anything were really popular in the 70s.
