Toy-Ventures: Planet of the Apes Playset by Multiple

This week's Toy-Ventures takes us back to the year 3978, a time ruled by Apes. We look at one of the more memorable Planet of the Apes Playsets, while that's usually synonymous with Mego, this is by Multiple Toymakers.

We discuss some of Multiple's more popular toy offerings as well as why exactly Doctor Zaius is wearing a blue outfit.

Origins of Remco Dracula!

My friend Matt strikes again! This time he's uncovered another toy mystery, just exactly who was the source material for the Dracula on this Remco Makeup box? The answer might blow your mind. More after the jump.

Toy-Ventures: Space:1999 Eagle 1 by Mattel

This week we take a look at what we consider to be one of the greatest toys of the 1970s, the Mattel Space:1999 Eagle 1 spaceship from 1976.

Based on the popular Gerry Anderson television series, this large, trendsetting toy just begs to brought to a sandbox immediately. PodStallions Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2226244254053126/ PlaidStallions Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Plaidstallionsdotcom/

Planet of the Apes Circus Poster

I kind of swore off poster collecting here (I ran out of walls) but I couldn't resist this small one for the (officially licensed) Planet of the Apes circus shows that went on in the UK during 1974. This falls under the category of Mall Appearances and well, it's Planet of the Apes, so I'll find the wall space even if it means taking down my Marvel Alice Cooper comic.

Below is some footage from the UK that I believe may be connected to this event:

Summer Pimps:2020

Sure, it looks bleak out there right now but this photo is to serve as a reminder that we are mere weeks from shorts season people. Chin up!

Dr. Zaius Bank

This weekend, the missus and I did some exploring, hitting antique malls, visiting new towns/fairs and indulging in local cuisine (in this case a $10 grilled cheese sandwich). Normally one of us scores while the other doesn't, by the end of the day, neither of us had purchased anything but brownies.

At our last stop, this guy was facing me as I entered as if to say "It's a Brian day" and I happily scooped him up. As an apes collector, it's really rare to find anything like this in the wilds of Canada.

He makes a lovely addition to my Planet of the Apes display case that I installed not long ago.

The Cheerful Family

The Cheerful family is a rip off of Mattel's "Sunshine Family" by Lincoln International. Not to be outdone by the overall creepiness of the originals, Lincoln somehow made them even more terrifying. I won't sleep tonight.

A 1970s McDonalds Costume Catalog

My friend Justin sent this to me yesterday and I can say without hyperbole that it's the greatest thing I'll ever see. If you've ever wondered how much "the Hamburglar" cost or if there was a checklist for Ronald McDonald's magic tricks, your quest is at an end today.

$975 for the Hanburglar, do you take Paypal?

When our local McDonald's opened our Ronald had a thick Ukrainian accent, leading many of us to believe that Ronald was supposed to sound like that.

Bless you Justin for this amazing look behind the curtain.
